Lean is a production practice that focuses on efficiency by eliminating anything which does not add value for the client. For purposes of Lean production, "value" is defined as any action or process that a customer would be willing to pay for. Lean manufacturing is a management philosophy primarily derived from the Toyota Production System (TPS).
In the building process, Lean production means design that provides optimal efficiency for the intended use of your building, reduction in design and construction durations and cost reductions in the design, construction and operation of your building.
Before the term “Lean” became commonplace, Miles & Kelley was implementing many of the Lean practices, such as “just in time”, “pull schedules” and “best value”. The formal Lean process gives these practices a framework, and facilitates their implementation across the entire construction team. Miles & Kelley continues to advance our implementation of the Lean process, and to apply it as is appropriate and applicable in each project.
